## Sunflowers need understanding, the right tools, meaningful support, and an environment where they can grow.

# About Supporting Sunflowers

**Supporting Sunflowers offers neurodiversity-affirming coaching for people who want to better understand themselves, build practical tools, and find a way forward that works for them.**

We work with neurodivergent adults, students, families, and the people who support them. We want to help make everyday life a little more manageable, one step at a time.

## Why Do You Need a Coach?

You don't need a coach to figure out your life. **You've already figured out a lot on your own.** You've probably spent years developing your own strategies, workarounds, and ways of getting things done. You know yourself better than anyone.

But sometimes, **the support you need isn't the support you have.**

Coaching isn't about taking over or telling you what to do. It's about having someone alongside you who can help you sort through the moving pieces, see things from a different perspective, and build tools that fit the way you work.

**You don't have to figure it all out alone.**

## Meet Russell Clinton

Russell brings together lived experience, education, cross-cultural service, and a long-standing commitment to helping people recognize their strengths and move toward lives that feel more meaningful and manageable. His work has spanned teaching, small-business ownership, team leadership, music education, language learning, and community support across different cultures and life circumstances.

Russell also brings lived experience of ADHD, autism, and late diagnosis. He has experienced the struggles of time blindness, feeling different, and the often damaging belief that "just trying harder should make difficult tasks easier." Learning more about neurodivergence helped him understand these experiences differently and recognize the importance of support that addresses a person’s actual needs rather than shame or unrealistic expectations.

Russell began working in education in 2007, first as a teacher’s assistant and later as an English teacher in mainland China, where he spent three years. Living and working across cultures deepened his appreciation for different worldviews and strengthened his ability to listen with curiosity rather than assume that one approach will work for everyone. He became fluent in Mandarin Chinese and later developed and taught a Mandarin Chinese as a second language course.

In Saipan, Russell owned and operated a music school and taught violin, guitar, bass, drums, ukulele, and piano. From 2016 to 2019, he managed a team of five teachers and more than 100 students, ranging in age from four to over sixty. He tailored instruction to each student’s interests, strengths, abilities, and communication style. For some students who had been underestimated or found verbal communication difficult, a patient, individualized approach helped create room for musical skill, confidence, enjoyment, and self-expression to emerge. He also organized teacher training and led professional development drawing on applied neuroscience, linguistics, language acquisition, music theory, and performance.

Since 2020, Russell has served as a missionary in the Marshall Islands, where his work has included Bible education, literacy courses, tutoring, youth support, translation, technical training, audio/video production, disaster relief liaison, event coordination, and practical community assistance. Working with people whose backgrounds and circumstances differ from his own has strengthened his humility, flexibility, and commitment to collaborative support.

Russell holds a Bachelor of Education, majoring in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), from the University of Science, Arts and Technology (USAT) in Montserrat. He graduated cum laude in March 2016. He completed training in Mandarin Chinese language teaching and TESOL through the Canadian Institute of English in October 2015 and graduated from the School for Kingdom Evangelizers in Guam in December 2019. In September 2026, he enrolled with CReW Institute for Neurodiversity Coach and Family Coach training. He is working toward the International Coaching Federation’s Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential and Mental Health First Aid certification; these are in progress, not completed credentials.

At Supporting Sunflowers, Russell’s approach is grounded in active listening, curiosity, collaboration, and respect for each person’s agency. He sees clients as whole people, not as problems to fix or people who must conform to someone else’s expectations.

His guiding belief is simple: every person has the capacity to find satisfaction and fulfillment, we may just need a little extra support to get there at times. Often, that support begins with an empathetic ear.

## What support can look like

### Break the Cycle of Feeling Stuck

Knowing what your options are doesn't always make it easier to choose what to do next. Sometimes we get caught in a loop—thinking, analyzing, second-guessing, and ultimately doing nothing. Coaching can help you identify what's keeping you stuck, work through the barriers, and develop practical tools for making decisions and taking action. Over time, you'll build greater confidence in your ability to recognize and move through those stuck moments.

### Build Tools for Everyday Life

Everyday challenges can become frustrating when you know what needs to be done but can’t seem to get started or follow through. Coaching can help you understand what’s getting in the way and develop practical tools for organization, routines, time awareness, task initiation, memory, and follow-through. The goal is to build strategies that make everyday life more manageable—and help you become more confident in using those tools on your own.

### Navigate Transitions & Growth

**Big life changes can bring a lot of smaller decisions with them.** Starting school, moving, changing careers, navigating relationships, or adjusting to changes in independence, moving forward after diagnosis, or supporting someone through one of these transitions can feel overwhelming.

Coaching can help you sort through the moving pieces, break big transitions into manageable steps, and develop practical tools for navigating change with greater clarity and confidence. The goal isn't to make every decision for you. **It's to help you develop the tools to move through change in a way that works for you.**

### Neurodivergent adults

Understand yourself, build everyday tools, navigate relationships and life changes, and find ways to move forward that work with your brain. Get unstuck and fight shame and guilt.

### Parents and families

Understand what's behind the patterns you're seeing, reduce friction, communicate more clearly, and find ways to support one another with compassion.

### Supporters and professionals

Develop a better understanding of neurodivergence and practical ways to create more supportive environments for the people you work with.

### You do not need a label to need support

You may struggle with time awareness, starting or finishing tasks, memory, executive function, sensory issues, or simply feeling like everyday life takes more effort than it seems like it should. **You don't need a formal diagnosis, or even a specific label to ask for help.** If something is getting in the way of the life you want, coaching can help you understand it and find practical ways forward.
